Frequently Asked Questions.
What is the difference between a Social Worker, Psychotherapist and Psychologist?
All three titles can provide therapy; however they are registered with different regulated Colleges. Social Workers and Psychotherapists are able to provide counselling services, however, are unable to assess and provide a diagnosis, unlike a Psychologist. None are able to prescribe medication.
How can therapy help me?
People come to therapy for many reasons. Most often people want to talk to someone that isn’t a family member or a friend, and they want a space to process and learn about themselves in a non-judgmental setting. During the intake session is when the clinician and client will determine the goals and needs of therapy, and are regularly assessed so that we can agree when it’s time to graduate from therapy.
The important piece to understand when coming to therapy is the expectation you have on the purpose of therapy and the therapist’s role. The therapist’s role is to create a space for you to share, process, gain skills and strategies, as well as holding a space for you to feel and be heard. The therapist cannot make the client do anything they don’t want to do, and that includes coming to therapy or taking part in sessions. When working with families, a large component to any success in therapeutic goals is the family taking a part in sessions and reinforcing any strategies or skills in the home environment.
How often should I attend sessions?
How therapy is conducted at Be Free Therapy Group is there is no pre-determined amount of sessions, as every client has different needs. Frequency of sessions is usually determined at the intake appointment or by the end of first ongoing session. Frequency is determined by the client’s needs, goals of therapy, and their availability.
When does therapy end?
Therapy can be terminated or end for a variety of reasons, such as the therapeutic goals have been met, the client has a change in heart regarding their need for therapy, fit for service is no longer a match as the client’s needs have changed, or the client’s financial situation is impacting their ability to attend ongoing sessions.
How do I make payment?
All payments are made through Jane, which is a secure online practice management system for practitioners to schedule, book, chart, and invoice clients. When completing your intake form you will be asked to fill in your credit card information. Your credit card is saved on file and encrypted with the last four digits available. At the end of every session, your card on file will be charged, and the clinician will email you your receipt, which you can use to submit to your insurance company, if applicable. We do not provide direct billing.
